PR 78 – Convincing Hungary claims gold in Berlin

The team of Hungary won the gold medal of the 2018 FINA Men’s Water Polo World Cup, after beating Australia by 10-4 in the final match of the tournament, held in Berlin (GER), from September 11-16. The bronze medal of the competition went to Serbia, who comfortably defeated the host squad by 15-9.

PR 77 - Burnell (GBR) and Xin (CHN), the best in Chun’An

Jack Burnell (GBR) and Xin Xin (CHN) were the winners of the seventh leg of the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series 2018 taking place in Chun’An, China, on September 16. The British swimmer needed 1h56m34s8 to complete the 10km-race, while Xin got the gold in 2h06m22s6. It was the second consecutive win for the Asian athlete, also the best in the previous race of the Series in Lac Megantic (CAN). For Burnell, this was the first success of the season, after two podium presences in Seychelles (silver) and Setubal (POR, bronze).

PR 76 - Chupkov (RUS) and Sjostrom (SWE) win cluster 1

Anton Chupkov (RUS) and Sarah Sjostrom (SWE) are the provisional leaders of the 2018 FINA Swimming World Cup ranking, with respectively 90 and 120 points, and winners of the first cluster of the competition. They are the first recipients of the US$ 50,000 prize money given to the best in each cluster. The second leg of the series was held in Doha (QAT) from September 13-15 and was highlighted by the establishment of five new World Cup records.

PR 74 – USA beats host Russia in Surgut

The team of USA won the 2018 edition of the FINA Women’s Water Polo World Cup, held in the Russian city of Surgut, from September 4-9. In the decisive match, the North American squad beat the host team by 8-5. Maggie Steffens and Ashleigh Johnson, playing for the winning squad, were named the Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, respectively.

PR 73 - SWC 2018: Seven World Cup records to open the series in Kazan (RUS)

Sarah Sjostrom (SWE) and Vladimir Morozov (RUS) are the first provisional leaders of the 2018 edition of the FINA Swimming World Cup, after the first leg of the competition, held in Kazan (RUS) from September 7-9. The Swedish star, winner of the series in 2017, concluded the Russian leg with 60 points, while the local star amassed 54 points. This initial meet was highlighted by seven World Cup records.
