Peaty receives FINA award in new home

Olympic Champion Adam Peaty has received his 2016 FINA Best Male Olympic Swimming Performance Award from British Swimming National Performance Director Chris Spice.  

Peaty, who was training in his new base at Loughborough University in England, received the award alongside his two world record certificates achieved in 2016.

PR 113- Russia beat the Netherlands in second round game

The Netherlands and Russia disputed their second round game of the FINA Women's Water Polo World League 2017 European preliminaries yesterday evening, December 20, in Utrecht (NED).

In the only match of the night, Group A's Russia defeated the Netherlands 15-12 despite a difficult first quarter (2-2, 5-4, 4-1, 5-4).

The other game of the second round was played on November 22 (Italy-France, 14-4)

Hosszu: the final eight wins in 2016!

As expected, the three-time Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu (HUN) was the shiniest star at the first edition of the Lausanne Swim Cup, taking place on December 17-18 in the Swiss city on the shore of the Geneva Lake. Over the two days of the competition, in 25m-pool, the Magyar great won eight races and swam the best performance of the meet (937 FINA points) in the women’s 400m IM (4:25.13). The other victories of the Hungarian great included the 400m free, 50m, 100m and 200m back, 100m fly, and 100m and 200m IM.

PR 112- Russia emerges victorious at Women's Youth Water Polo Championships

Team Russia beat Spain 9-7 in the gold-medal final of the third FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships at the Sir Owen Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland, New Zealand on Sunday December 18.

In the bronze-medal match, Italy defeated Netherlands 14-13 in sudden-death penalty shootout after the match was tied at 7-7. Both teams missed a shot in the regular time and both scored their first two attempts in sudden death before Netherlands had its shot blocked and Italy converted.

Russia-Spain final at FINA Women's Youth Water Polo World Champs

Auckland, December 17.— Russia will play Spain for the gold medal at the FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships at the Sir Owen Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland on Sunday.

Russia beat Netherlands 12-8 in the first semifinal after being 5-1 ahead at halftime and Spain converted a 6-4 halftime lead over Italy to win 12-10.

In the Round 5-8 semifinals, United States of America downed China 20-6 and Greece beat Hungary 11-10.

Swimming stars conclude busy year in Lausanne (SUI)

Nicolas Balthasar was a happy… and nervous man. After two minutes, he stops talking, and takes some water. “Sorry, must be from the emotion of being here”. The president of the Organising Committee of the first Lausanne Swim Cup, to be held this weekend in the Olympic capital, then confesses: “I never thought we would reach this level of participation for this inaugural edition”. At his side, at the Press Conference to open the event, several sounding names of the discipline: US Michael Andrew and Anthony Ervin, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu, and France’s Medhy Metella and Clément Mignon.

Spain, USA, China and Italy blast into Worlds quarterfinals

Auckland, December 15.— Spain, United States of America, China and Italy have earned quarterfinal shots after preliminary-round play on the fourth day of the FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships at the Sir Owen Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland.

Spain defeated Australia 14-7, USA shut out Germany 21-0, China defeated Canada 12-9 and Italy closed the evening’s entertainment with a 15-9 win over host New Zealand.

Auckland, New Zealand, December 14.— Russia, Netherlands, Greece and Hungary all emerged as group winners on the third day of the FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships at the Sir Owen Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland.

They earn a day off on Thursday as the next eight teams play the preliminary round in the battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.
